Gaming Machine Rules: it has come to my attention some members are not quite sure what the rule is concerning ‘Reserving a Machine’. Please note the following below from the Department of Internal Affairs:
4.2 Restriction on use of more than one machine
(1) No player may play more than one gaming machine at a time.
(2) For the purpose of this Rule, playing more than one machine at a time occurs when a player has control of more than one gaming machine in a playable state.
(3) A gaming machine is in a playable state if it:
(a) has credits on it and is able to be played; or
(b) has been reserved with or without having credits on it; or
(c) has credits on it and is showing a Player Information Display at the time, or
(d) is performing a feature, including “free spins” or a “bonus game”.
(4) A gaming machine is not in a playable state for the purpose of Rule 4.2(3) if:
(a) the gaming machine is unable to be played because of a machine fault, whether or not the gaming machine has credits on it; or
(b) a staff member has placed the gaming machine in audit mode in order to carry out any procedure the staff member is authorised to undertake, whether or not the gaming machine has credits on it; or
(c) a player has requested a manual payment and the gaming machine is unable to be played until the manual payment is completed; or
(d) the gaming machine is, for any other reason, in a mode where game play and/or jackpot play and money input or output is no longer available to the player.
(5) If the player contravenes Rule 4.2(1), no prize may be paid out to that player.
Therefore, if you have reserved your machine for a payout, the machine then is not in a playable state. You can play another machine while waiting for your payout.
If a machine has been reserved with or without credits on it … (because you want to go have a smoke or use the bathroom) the machine is still in a playable state. Therefore, if you take too long to have your smoke or use the bathroom or decide to go get yourself a drink or two, then you cannot expect to come back and play that machine you have reserved. Another person has every right to remove the reserve sign and start playing the machine even if it has credits on it.
I hope this clarifies any confusion around ‘reserving gaming machines’.
